Artwork Information:

Drawing inspiration from the vibrant, joyful folk art of Austin-based artist Terrell Powell, our first graders spent several weeks transforming a blank canvas into a celebration of color and creativity. Together, they explored Powell’s whimsical style—layering bright hues, playful patterns, and lively brushstrokes across the canvas. Through teamwork and imagination, the students collaboratively built up rich textures and overlapping forms, filling the surface with the energy of a thriving flower garden. For the final touch, the central garden design was masked off, and a gentle wash of semi-transparent white paint was added, creating soft, cloudy edges around the vivid bouquet. This striking contrast highlights the heart of the artwork: a bold, flourishing garden bursting with flowers in every color, each one shaped by the unique hand of a young artist.
