Cubist Serenade (3rd Grade)
Our 3rd grade artists explored the revolutionary Cubist movement through the lens of Juan Gris, a visionary contemporary of Pablo Picasso. Students began their creative journey by tearing and sorting pages from donated books and magazines, organizing them by color—transforming discarded words and images into a vibrant palette.
Working collaboratively, students filled labeled squares on the artboard with their paper scraps, using painting medium and glue to layer and secure each piece. The result is a dynamic still life of a guitar, deconstructed and reimagined through geometric shapes and fragmented color. Students then embellished the composition with acrylic paint, adding depth, detail, and personal expression to complete their masterpiece.
